We are throwing it back with some of the "favorite" meals we've made this far on our budget meals journey!

I know a lot of these call for ingredients that are a little more spendy so here are some suggestions:

  • For the steak bites, use a stir fry meat or a cheaper/lower quality steak like round steak.

  • Instead of heavy whipping cream, use half and half or a milk and cornstarch mix.

  • Replace cream cheese with sour cream or original Greek yogurt.

  • Any ground meat can be a replacement for ground beef. One pound of ground beef runs about $5.27 (depending on fat content) and one pound of ground turkey is $2.54. Spending $12.70 on 5 pounds of meat sounds much better than spending $26.35 for 5 pounds. Obviously, use what you prefer for you and your family but also know that just because I say ground beef doesn't mean it has to be!

  • Buy bouillon cubes and make your own broth opposed to buying the cartons of broth. Each cube makes 1 cup of broth. You spend an extra $1 to make about 5-6 times more broth.

  • Use seasonings you have on hand. None of these are set in stone.

  • Shop your cupboards and fridge/freezer BEFORE you go to the store. Do not buy unnecessary ingredients.

I hope you have a great week!

Be blessed, ~Liz
